Case / Situational Analysis Questions

ABC Manufacturing Pvt. Ltd., a medium-sized manufacturing company in Kathmandu since 1995 AD, has been operating in a highly competitive market. It has been exporting its products to India, Bangladesh, and Bhutan since its inception. In the last five years, the company has experienced a continuous decline in its profitability despite its relatively stable sales revenue.

Management of the company has noticed a growing problem: rising operating costs, absenteeism, declining productivity, low employee motivation, and employee turnover. The company has also faced broader financial and economic pressures. Inflation has increased the prices of raw materials and utilities. Highly increased fuel price charged to high transportation costs and supply chain inefficiencies. Employees have raised demand for higher wages to compensate for the rising cost of living. The company's management is concerned that increasing labor costs without corresponding improvements in productivity will further reduce profit margins.

An internal review indicates that employee behavior may be contributing to the company's financial difficulties. Employees report dissatisfaction with compensation, limited opportunities for promotion, heavy workloads, and inadequate communication from supervisors. Some employees have become less committed to their work, resulting in absenteeism, delays, workplace conflicts, and reduced productivity. Employee turnover has also increased, forcing the company to spend more on recruitment and training.

Though the unemployment rate is high, the company is suffering from the domination of low-skilled but higher-degree qualification holders in new recruitments.

Management is considering introducing performance-based incentives, employee participation in decision-making, training and development programs, and improved financial planning. However, it is unclear which factors have the greatest influence on employee behavior and whether changes in employee behavior would significantly improve the company's financial performance.

Questions:

a. Identify the research problems with research questions from above case.

b. Develop a research framework to identify the factors influencing employee behavior. Also develop five hypotheses based on the framework.

c. Develop a research methodology (design, population, sampling techniques, and data analysis approach) to conduct the research.
